Teaching Current Events in an Election Year

Using Facing History’s Current Events resources, this workshop will examine how bias shapes our understanding of the media. Educators will explore ways to deepen their students’ news literacy skills and foster civil discourse in the classroom to help students become effective civic participants in a global society.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn about Facing History’s approach to media literacy
  • Receive a copy of our Fostering Civil Discourse Guide Discover teaching strategies and digital tools that deepen students’ media literacy skills and students’ capacity for meaningful discussions on current issues related to the election year

After this workshop, you will:

  • Become part of the Facing History educator network, with access to a rich slate of educator resources, including units and lesson plans, study guides, and multimedia
  • Be able to download publications and access some of our streaming videos through our online lending library

Recommended for 6th - 12th grade teachers.

The workshop will be held 4:30 - 6:00pm Eastern Daylight Time.
