Coronavirus: Teaching Complex Current Events and Supporting Student Well-Being

As the coronavirus outbreak spreads around the world, educators face the question of how to discuss this complex, fast-changing, and concerning story with students. Join Facing History and Ourselves, PBS NewsHour Extra and the AFT to explore approaches to addressing this current event, whether you are teaching in the classroom or online. We’ll discuss interdisciplinary connections, media literacy, strategies for supporting students’ social-emotional well-being, and resources to probe deeper questions about community, responsibility and the common good.

This webinar takes place from 4–5pm EST. If this time doesn’t work for your schedule, be sure to register and we’ll notify you once the recording is available for on-demand viewing.

You will be eligible to receive one-hour of professional development credit for participation if you actively watch the webinar. At the conclusion of the webinar, you will be able to download a certificate of completion from the webinar console. Check with your school district in advance of the webinar to ensure that the professional development credit is accepted.
