LA Upstander: Kaylen M.

Kaylen is the current president of Bring Change to Mind, a club that is dedicated to encouraging dialogue about mental health, and to raising awareness, understanding, and empathy. She has single-handedly taken leadership of the club and put lessons together that bring about mental health awareness to the school community. She has weekly meetings with members and goes above and beyond to plan paint nights and poetry nights for students to have a virtual space to feel included and to express themselves.

Kaylen's actions have led to successful events and the opportunity to have a space to talk about mental health between staff and students at Valor Academy High School. Kaylen's upstanding stands out because she goes above and beyond to make sure that our students feel supported and safe when discussing mental health.
