After a political season shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, nationwide protests for racial justice, sharp partisan divisions, and questions about the integrity of the electoral process itself, there was a great deal to discuss after the 2020 election. Listen to a lively community conversation featuring Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Nicholas Kristof, 300th Anniversary University Professor and former Harvard Law School dean Martha Minow, educator and Facing History alum Janae McMillan, and legal scholar and Harvard Law School professor Randall Kennedy to examine what’s next for US democracy, the role of teachers and education, and the future of youth civic participation.

The January 6th investigation has deepened widespread concerns about rising threats of fascism, racism, white nationalism, and other phenomena that undermine justice for all. But in analyses that focus primarily on the role of white nationalism fomented within media echo chambers, for example, commentators have overlooked what may be a more pervasive parallel phenomenon: the widespread crisis of faith in U.S. media and institutions at large.

A recent poll found that 52% of young people between 18 and 29 believe that either US democracy is "in trouble" or "failed," while only 7% agree that it is "healthy," further highlighting the need to teach students about democratic institutions.
