Corporate Sponsor Spotlight: KLA

Inspired by Facing History’s unique approach, KLA has helped bring our curriculum to hundreds of educators and classrooms across the country.

KLA, a global technology company of more than 15,000 people that works at the nexus of electron and photon optics, sensor technology, and artificial intelligence, began their partnership with Facing History & Ourselves four years ago with a grant to expand work in Northern California’s Bay Area. As they learned more about Facing History’s unique approach and impact, KLA Foundation supported hundreds of educators in Santa Clara County to complete our Teaching for Equity and Justice (TEJ) professional learning series. TEJ helps educators explore individual bias, the impact of stereotypes, and the historical roots of inequities in American education, and develops the skills and knowledge that create classrooms in which all students are valued, respected, and encouraged to excel.

KLA Foundation’s support also seeded new work in school districts near their regional office in Ann Arbor, Michigan, bringing our Reconstruction curriculum and civic education materials to more than 13,000 middle schoolers in southeast Michigan. Joni Podolsky, KLA’s Director of Global Inclusion and Diversity, and a member of Facing History’s Northern California Advisory Board, explains that KLA’s investment in Facing History grew as the strength of our approach became more and more clear. "We see how Facing History empowers educators and prepares them to discuss with their students how individual choices make an impact, especially at difficult moments in history.”
