Repairing the World: Stories from the Tree of Life

Facing History’s viewing guide will help you connect with key lessons and messages while watching this important documentary.

Facing History & Ourselves uses the lessons of history to challenge teachers and their students to stand up to bigotry and hate. Of course there are many ways to teach these lessons, and one of those methods is through film. That’s why Facing History is celebrating the premiere of Repairing the World: Stories from the Tree of Life.

About the Movie

This moving documentary chronicles the response to hate and antisemitism in the aftermath of the deadly attack at the Tree of Life synagogue in 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The film follows survivors, families of the victims, diverse community members, participants, and civic leaders for three years as they examine their vulnerabilities and the impact of rising antisemitism, racism, hate speech, and gun violence. Against the backdrop of a tumultuous period in the country, citizens that have faced violence and trauma work to heal and grapple with what it means to be stronger than hate.
