Who are we without our values?

The values that lead Facing History extend beyond the classroom. Our entire community are participants in the work we do.

The work done by Facing History is led by our values. We follow those values in the development of teaching materials, professional development, and other resources that encourage teachers and their students to create brave, thoughtful spaces, where everyone can be heard and feels they belong.

Facing History's Core Values

Facing History’s values are more than words on a page; they are the cornerstone of what we do. As an organization we lead with empathy and kindness and are working to build a world where we all can recognize our shared humanity.

The intentional and caring actions that represent our values don’t just live in the classroom, though. Teachers and students are at the heart of Facing History’s outreach, but our impact extends much wider than that—donors, parents, noted scholars, and individuals from all walks of life support and participate in our learning community. Our hope is that the change that comes from exploring the lessons of history informs and inspires everyone who touches our work.

We believe that everyone has a role to play in creating a more inclusive and just society. When you give to Facing History you are supporting education that elevates social-emotional learning alongside academic rigor and teaches young people how to contribute to our world.

Nothing any of us do happens in a vacuum. Everyone’s actions matter. The choices we make, and the values we hold, affect our classrooms, our families, our neighborhoods, and beyond. The vision of a more equitable and loving global community is in our hands.
