Teaching Holocaust and Human Behavior

What does learning about the choices people made during the Weimar Republic, the rise of the Nazi Party, and the Holocaust teach us about the power and impact of our choices today? In this workshop, we will explore aspects of Facing History’s 23 lesson unit created to provide educators with resources, strategies, and classroom activities to guide students through their study of the Holocaust. The study of the Holocaust is crucial to an understanding of the particular historical context in which the Nazi Party established a dictatorship in Germany, marginalized Jews and other minority groups within German society, and ultimately committed genocide under the cover of war. We will be exploring curriculum resources found in Teaching Holocaust and Human Behavior unit for in person, hybrid or remote teaching.

This workshop will be facilitated online with some pre-reading outside of the scheduled time. The interactive, instructional Zoom meeting will include content and pedagogy aimed at teaching and implementing a unit onHolocaust and Human Behavior.

Participating teachers will:

  • Discover new interdisciplinary teaching strategies that reinforce literacy skills and historical understanding for hybrid and remote teaching.
  • Have access to Facing History’s lending library, including related streaming video and multimedia andthe teaching unit: Teaching Holocaust and Human Behavior in digital format.

This workshop will be held via Zoom. Details for joining the Zoom meeting will be shared with registered participants prior to the event.

This workshop is intended for middle and high school teachers in the New York/New Jersey area. NY participants will receive CTLE hours and NJ participants can get PD hours upon completion.
